02/04/2012 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The San Jose Sharks aim to push their win streak to four straight games this evening as they begin a tough stretch of road games with a matchup against the Phoenix Coyotes.
The Sharks halted a three-game slide with a 1-0 win at Calgary in their last game before the All-Star break. They then came out of the hiatus with a 6-0 win over Columbus and knocked off the visiting Stars 5-2 on Thursday.
With starter Antti Niemi out with an ankle injury, backup Thomas Greiss made 19 saves and helped push San Jose's scoreless streak by an opponent to a club- record 190 minutes and 51 seconds before yielding a goal with 7:19 left in the second.
Logan Couture, Joe Pavelski and Joe Thornton ended with a goal and an assist, while Ryane Clowe scored in his first game back since Jan. 15 because of facial fractures. Michal Handzus also scored in San Jose's fifth straight win over Dallas.
"For whatever reason we play them real well," Thornton said of the Stars. "They bring out the best in us."
Niemi could return to action tonight after practicing on Friday and the Sharks did reassign netminder Tyson Sexsmith back to the minors.
San Jose is 10-3-2 since Jan. 2 and four points up on Los Angeles for the top spot in the Pacific Division. It will play two straight at home following tonight's test in Phoenix before embarking on a nine-game road trip.
The Coyotes, meanwhile, are 1-2-1 on a six-game homestand and were handed a 4-1 defeat by the Ducks on Tuesday on the strength of Andrew Cogliano's natural hat trick in the second period.
Ray Whitney scored and Mike Smith was tagged for three goals on 18 shots before being yanked in the second period for the Coyotes. Jason LaBarbera stopped all 11 shots he saw in relief as Phoenix lost for the fourth time in five games and for the 13th time in 17 contests.
Coyotes coach Dave Tippett was frustrated by his team's seeming inability to carry over its good play into the second period.
"It was an interesting game," he said. "We came out well in the first period, jumping. But in the second period our execution was so poor we got locked in our own end and that led to some long shifts and they got momentum."
Phoenix, which is five points back of a playoff spot, has lost 10 of its past 12 versus the Sharks, with the clubs splitting a pair of meetings so far this year in San Jose. The Coyotes did come out on top 3-0 in the most recent encounter on Nov. 12 behind a 31-save shutout by Smith.
The Sharks have won four of their last five in Phoenix.

New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.
The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.
MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.
Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.

The Nebraska athletic department said in a release Monday that Lucky was admitted Sunday night.

A nursing supervisor at the hospital said all questions about Lucky were being referred to the athletic department. The athletic department said there would be no further comment from the department or Lucky's family.
A Lincoln Police spokesman said officers responded to a call at Lucky's residence 11:30 p.m. Sunday. The spokesman said he didn't know Lucky's condition at the time he was taken to the hospital.
Lucky, from North Hollywood, Calif., started six games last season as a sophomore and was the team's second-leading rusher, with 728 yards and six touchdowns. He also caught 32 passes for 383 yards. He averaged 19.1 yards on eight kickoff returns.
